Bright Beet Detox Juice with Citrus and Ginger

Juicy, vivid and invigorating: this detox juice of beet, orange, apple, lemon and ginger wakes up the palate with a clean, fresh finish. It balances the natural sweetness of fruit with the gentle warmth of ginger and the sparkle of citrus — just right for breakfast or an afternoon vitamin boost.

    Ingredients

    • Beetroot — 1 medium (about 150g (5 oz))
    • Carrot — 1
    • Apple (sweet-tart) — 1
    • Orange — 1
    • Lemon — 1/2
    • Fresh ginger — 10g (0.4 oz)
    • Cold water (for blender, optional) — 100ml (1/2 cup)

    Step-by-Step Recipe

    1. Wash all the produce thoroughly. Peel the beetroot and carrot if needed. Core the apple and cut it into pieces. Peel the orange and lemon, removing all white pith. Trim off the thin skin from the ginger.
    2. If using a juicer: feed the beetroot, carrot, apple, ginger, then the citrus through one by one. Stir the finished juice so the flavor is even and balanced.
    3. If using a blender: chop everything into pieces, place in the jar, add 100ml (1/2 cup) cold water, and blend until smooth. Strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth, pressing out the pulp well.
    4. Pour into glasses. Serve over ice if you like. Drink immediately for the freshest flavor.

    Tips and Variations

    • To soften the beet flavor: add 1/2 cucumber or a celery stalk — both bring freshness and smooth out the earthy notes.
    • For a better sweet-tart balance: if the juice tastes too sharp, add 30–50ml (2–3 tbsp) water; if it’s too tart, add 1 tsp honey or maple syrup.
    • Temperature and serving: chill the fruit and vegetables in advance so the juice is especially refreshing, even without ice.
    • Choosing beetroot: go for a small young beet — it’s juicier and milder in flavor.
    • Storage: best enjoyed right away. If needed, pour into a dark glass bottle, fill it to the top, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Shake before serving.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make it without a juicer? Yes. Blend all the ingredients with 100ml (1/2 cup) water and strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth, pressing out the pulp.

Can I use cooked beetroot? For juice, it’s not ideal: the flavor becomes softer, but the texture is heavier. Cooked beetroot works better in a smoothie.

What can I use instead of orange or lemon? Replace orange with mandarins or grapefruit, and lemon with lime. Taste as you go and adjust the sweetness or acidity to suit you.

How do I reduce the earthy taste of beetroot? Use fresh young beetroot, add a little more citrus, and finish with a pinch of grated ginger or a few mint leaves.
